New Year's resolution: fresh start!

Working_out The holidays are finally over. And if you detect a note of relief in that statement, I'm sure you can understand why. There's the stress of the holidays, sure. But beyond that, it's all the food! If we ate like that all year, we'd all have to spend half of every day in the gym just to keep our bodies in check.

And that brings me to my topic of the month: the New Year's Resolution. Go to the gym and get rid of that pound (or twelve) that showed up during the past month of feasting and festivities. I can probably add that to the top of my resolution list for the rest of my life. So, since I'm going to be spending a little extra time in the gym, I stocked up on some of my favorite underwear for working out.

Just in case you're in the same boat I'm in, here are the ones that are topping my list this year:

Social Grace: Manners on a Dance Floor

Dancefloor1Dear Social Grace,

I'm in my late 30s. I have been out for several years, and I have been enjoying the club scene, more or less, for the past six years or so. I also volunteer, go to Pride events and have a decent circle of friends -- gay and straight, male and female. However, I am not the best at social situations -- especially when there are other potentially single gay men there, as I can be shy. At clubs, then, it gets even worse with the music, smoke, liquor and bad lighting.

Top Ten Video Games of 2008

Rockband2_2It's been another spectacular year for video games, with more than enough compelling adventures to satisfy even the most demanding player. It's been a particularly gratifying year for Xbox 360 owners, who have benefited from a consistent flow of first-rate software from Microsoft and other publishers.

Nintendo, on the other hand, has been a huge disappointment. While the low-priced Wii continues to outsell the competition, new releases for the console have been, for the most part, uninspired.

And while Sony's pricey PlayStation 3 has been a tough sell in this economy, its library is improving, almost, but not quite, keeping pace with the Xbox. Here are my favorite games of 2008:

Gaywheels review: 2009 Volvo C30

2009_volvo_c30_headerAs publisher of Gaywheels.com, I do my best to get seat time in as many vehicles as possible in order to bring you the most up-to-date reviews of the new cars and trucks. With a plethora of new and updated vehicles coming on line every year, it is nearly impossible to get seat time in them all so I count on my fellow journalists to share their opinions on vehicles I simply can’t get into.

One vehicle that has eluded my schedule until recently is the Volvo C30. Based on the lukewarm praise that some of my colleagues gave it, I wasn’t going out of my way to get behind the wheel. However, the Volvo C30 has been coming on strong in our Top 10 Most Researched list so I decided to spend time in one and I am certainly happy I did.

The Other Gay: Catching Happy :)

Happyguys_2When you're smiling, the whole world really does smile with you. At least that's what some new research concludes. Happiness is contagious, and that we pass on our good cheer, even to total strangers. It was previously found that obesity and smoking habits spread socially, as well.

Wine 1-2-3: Tips for the novice drinker

Wine1I love wine, but I'm not all that picky about it. Sure, I enjoy a fine vintage, but I also enjoy dive bars, gallery openings, and queer-cause fundraisers -- so I'll happily drink box wine from a plastic tumbler, too. Hey, it does the trick, and I'm much more interested in socializing than in Wine Advocate ratings.

If that sounds familiar, you may also agree with me that pretentious wine snobbery can be somewhat ridiculous. At the same time, however, wine's long and noble history makes it a beverage worthy of respectful treatment (and responsible treatment -- the only thing worse than a wine snob is the party guest who drinks too much).

Gaywheels review: 2010 Mazda3

Gaywheels2010mazda3_1The Mazda3 is a very important car for Mazda globally. So when it came time to design the 2010 Mazda3, the question came to "evolution or revolution?". Thankfully it was "evolution" that won out at Mazda and the new Mazda3 promises to continue as a sales success for Mazda with an all-new vehicle that builds on the previous car’s popularity. The question is; "Is the Madza3 only half as good as the excellent Mazda6?"
